I'm proud to say that I was selected as the winner of the 2016 Judson Jerome Scholarship to the Antioch Writers' Workshop! Although I was unable to attend, three of my poems ("Molluscs", "Trickle-Down Theory", and "Quijote") are now published in the 2016 Scholarship Winners anthology, available on Amazon.

The Journal of Humanistic Mathematics is quite remarkable--a place for poetry, art, and the humanities within the field of mathematics, and a place for mathematics in the world of the humanities. I'm proud to have my flash fiction piece, The University of Montana Department of Mathematics Post-Apocalyptic Working Seminar", published there!
I'm excited to have three poems published in oil on my mind: a collective art-based inquiry on grassroots approaches to wellbeing, ecology, and loss in the Southwest! This project asks important questions like the following:
"How does ecological degradation in the Southwest affect our lives? How do we respond—even in extreme mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional states—to the warming world around us? How do we create and perpetuate our reliance to oil and gas, to the pharmaceutical industry, and to other entities that may be maddening (and—at times–life-giving) themselves? Whose lives are most affected by the carcinogenic Gulf Coast?" The organizers of this project include the rad Houstonian organizers/artists Yudith Nieto of Tejas Barrios and S Rodriguez of Paraspace Books! Since the American election last month, I've noticed a handful of poetry sites pop up dedicated to providing poetry for the daily work of resistance. Rise Up Review is one such site, and my poem "Resolution" is one of three currently featured on its page. "Resolution" wrangles with my Muslim upbringing in the wake of Islamophobic protests near my childhood home in suburban Dallas. More poetry of resistance is on its way, from Rise Up Review and myself; I'd love to see yours in the comments!
My friends Stacy Nigliazzo and Gabrielle Langley put together the urgently necessary poetry anthology Red Sky: Poetry on the Global Epidemic of Violence Against Women. Red Sky began as a way of addressing the death of a friend of Stacy's from intimate partner violence and features Naomi Shihab Nye, Tony Hoagland, Thylias Moss, Fady Joudah, Jaki Shelton Green, Hélène Cardona, Zeina Hashem Beck, and 100+ other poets nationwide. I'm deeply honored and humbled to have my poem "Rape Culture" included in this anthology. Proceeds from Red Sky go to support the Global Fund for Women.
I'm now offering my chapbook, Trickle-Down Theory, as a free download! If you'd like to order a print copy, please contact me.
I'm honored to have my sarcastic "Ode to United Fruit", which features plenty of ripe and exploding plant ovaries, published in the gritty, gutsy Banango Street's Issue 11! Check it out below.
One of my poetry dreams has come true: I've been nominated for a Pushcart Prize by Permafrost Magazine! I'm in love with Permafrost's eclectic, forceful work, so it's especially honoring to be one of their nominations. They've also published an interview with me which includes steamy details about my writing rituals and my queerness! Permafrost is totally my magazine soul mate right now.
The vibrant Cactus Heart Magazine has published my poem "#racetogether", about Starbucks' ill-fated campaign to encourage its baristas to talk to customers about racial issues while they waited for their lattes. I'm honored to be in this magazine, which I've admired for a while! You can buy the e-issue containing my poem and many other great pieces here.
I am delighted and honored to announce that I will have a feature in the latest issue of Permafrost Magazine, the wonderful grad student-run lit mag out of the University of Alaska-Fairbanks! Stay tuned for the feature. Four of my poems, Trickle-Down Theory, Let's Trim Our Hair in Accordance with the Socialist Lifestyle, Slaine, and Molluscs, have also been published in Permafrost and can be read by clicking on their names.
