I love Houston, public radio, and art, so I'm very lucky indeed to have been interviewed and read poetry on Houston's Pacifica-affiliated 90.1 KPFT Living Art radio program, hosted by the incomparable Bucky Rea, this week (the August 2 show on their website). The interview starts at around 21:00 on the recording. My public radio-listening childhood self is so happy right now!

Hey friends! I'll be opening the When She Speaks, I Hear the Revolution femme/queer-centric Pride open mic with a set of queer poetry! Before that, I'll be closing Peculiar's set at the Spoken Word Stage at 2:10 (their reading starts at 12:30). Check out the fabulous poets at both stages! If you come out, you might catch a poem's speaker inserting their foot into Donald Trump's mouth and a poem entitled "Proof by Contradiction of the Irrationality of the Square Root of Two". #hott #sexypoetryaction #wow
I'm so happy to get to read twice in the next couple of weeks in my new home city! First, on March 31, I'll be reading some of my genderqueer-themed poetry at the Transgender Day of Visibility event for trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming poets!
Second, my poem "Sickle" won first prize in the Utah Pride Center Poetry & Prose Contest, and I'll be reading at their awards night on April 4. If you're in Salt Lake, I hope to see you at one or both of these events! In late July, I will be leaving Houston to move to Salt Lake City, where I will be working as an assistant professor of mathematics at Westminster College. This makes it all the more sweet to have been selected as a featured reader in the June 30 edition of the Poison Pen Reading Series! Voted Houston's "Best Local Reading Series" in 2008 and 2014 by the Houston Press and one of Houston's four best reading series by Houstonia Magazine, Poison Pen brings in the best writers in the city. So I'm humbled to have been chosen; come out and see my (TBA) co-readers, who are sure to be incredible!
I'm excited to be a part of Public Poetry's 5th anniversary reading, which features many previous featured poets reading one poem each as well as the usual four featured poets reading 16-minute sets. The reading will be at Houston's Central Library (500 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77002) on Saturday, May 7, at 2pm. I hope to see you there!Due to an organizing mix-up, my feature with the First Friday Poetry Reading Series, Houston's oldest poetry reading series, has been postponed until May 1, 2015. Please check back then!
The Public Poetry series was kind enough to feature me along with the fantastic Jeremy Johnson, Sharon Klander, and Stalina Villareal! Check back for my next Public Poetry reading this winter.
